About the role: Eagle Creek Renewable Energy owns and/or operates 85 hydroelectric facilities throughout the United States and is currently seeking an experienced Associate Director of Civil Engineering/Associate Chief Dam Safety Engineer to join a growing, nimble, and diverse team. The Associate CDSE reports to the Chief Dam Safety Engineer (CDSE) and will have supervisory responsibilities for a small team of Dam Safety Engineers (DSEs). The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 10 years of experience in the dams and hydropower industry. The selected candidate will have the opportunity to perform a broad range of work tasks with support from other engineering and management staff. What You’ll Do:
Collaborate with the CDSE, a diverse team of DSEs, hydropower operators, and regulatory officials to ensure continued safe operation of all dams and civil infrastructure within an assigned region.
Develop a comprehensive understanding of dams and related civil infrastructure within an assigned region to ensure prompt identification and response to observed dam safety concerns.
Provide leadership and direction to an assigned team of DSEs, ensuring comprehensive management of civil and dam safety responsibilities.
Oversee and/or participate in FERC inspections, Part 12 inspections, Potential Failure Modes Analysis (PFMA), and Risk Analysis workshops.
Oversee dam safety surveillance and monitoring programs including internal engineer dam safety inspections, collection and interpretation of instrumentation data, detailed gate inspections, bathymetry surveys, penstock inspections, dive inspections, and monument surveys.
Lead the development and review of critical documentation, including Dam Safety Surveillance and Monitoring Plans, Supporting Technical Information Documents (STIDs), and Dam Safety Surveillance and Monitoring Reports (DSSMRs).
Collaborate with and manage consultants, to ensure high-quality and timely engineering analyses and reporting.
Provide oversight for civil and dam construction projects to ensure adherence to safety standards, timely delivery, and project completion in accordance with the design intent.
Support periodic reviews of the Owner’s Dam Safety Program both internally and externally
Collaborate with the Dam Safety team to develop and deliver company-wide dam safety training to expand understanding, appreciation, and awareness of dam safety considerations and to foster a safety-first culture throughout the company.
Drive continuous improvement in the dam and public safety programs
What skills and experience you’ll need:
Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering or a closely related engineering discipline.
Professional Engineer (PE) license/certification
The ability to travel as needed up to 30% on average.
Able to independently prioritize work and manage competing deadlines.
Demonstrated skills in successful problem-solving independently and as a team member.
Excellent written and oral communication skills.
Desire and ability to effectively collaborate with all Eagle Creek staff including operations, maintenance, safety, compliance, and management teams.
Self-starter, motivated, and innate drive to succeed.
Preferred skills:
Knowledge and understanding of FERC and applicable State Dam Safety regulations.
Fundamental understanding of structural, geotechnical, hydrologic, and hydraulic engineering concepts and application, as well as some experience in project and construction management.
Experience interpreting dam instrumentation data including various types of piezometers, inclinometers, seepage weirs, movement monuments, etc.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to climb/traverse the slopes of dams, some of which may exceed 100 feet.
Comfortability with entry into confined spaces such as dam galleries for inspections.
