This position plays a critical role in ensuring the plant operates safely, efficiently, and reliably while maximizing generation and minimizing downtime.
The ideal candidate will possess strong mechanical and electrical troubleshooting capabilities, experience working with rotating equipment and hydraulic systems, and the ability to operate independently while maintaining high operational standards. This position requires a professional who takes not only ownership of the facility, maintains situational awareness of plant conditions, but responds quickly and safely to operational issues.

We are seeking a highly dependable and technically skilled Hydroelectric Technician / Plant Operator to support the operation and maintenance of a hydroelectric generating facility. This position plays a critical role in ensuring the plant operates safely, efficiently, and reliably while maximizing generation and minimizing downtime.

This position requires a professional who takes not only ownership of the facility, maintains situational awareness of plant conditions, but responds quickly and safely to operational issues.
Primary Responsibilities
- Operate and monitor hydroelectric generating equipment including turbines, generators, wicket gates, hydraulic systems, and auxiliary plant equipment.
- Monitor plant performance and respond to alarms and operational conditions through VT SCADA and Other platforms.
- Perform routine inspections of plant structures, waterways, and mechanical systems to identify operational or safety concerns.
- Conduct preventative and corrective maintenance on mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical equipment.
- Diagnose and troubleshoot equipment failures and implement corrective actions to restore plant operations quickly and efficiently.
- Maintain accurate operational logs, maintenance documentation, and inspection records.
- Coordinate with management and engineering staff to identify maintenance priorities and operational improvements.
- Supervise and assist contractors performing work on plant systems.
- Ensure compliance with safety standards, regulatory requirements, and environmental obligations.
- Maintain plant readiness and respond to unplanned outages or emergency conditions.
- 3+ years experience in power generation, hydroelectric facilities, industrial maintenance, or a comparable heavy mechanical
- environment.
- Strong understanding of mechanical systems, hydraulics, pumps, valves, and rotating equipment.
- Working knowledge of electrical systems and industrial controls.
- Experience with SCADA or industrial monitoring systems preferred.
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, schematics, and maintenance documentation.
- Strong problem-solving skills and ability to diagnose equipment issues in the field.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Mechanical, electrical, or industrial technical certification or trade training
- Experience working around dams, waterways, or turbine-generating equipment
- Work performed in an industrial hydroelectric facility and outdoor environment.
- Ability to climb ladders, work around water, and access plant structures.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
- Exposure to varying weather conditions and mechanical equipment.
- Full-time position with on-call responsibilities to support plant operations and emergency response.
