About the role: The Electrical Engineer will have the opportunity to perform a broad range of work tasks with guidance and support from other engineering and management staff. Hydro-electric equipment and duties within the scope of this position includes but is not limited to generators, governors, excitation systems, generator circuit breakers, switchgear, switchboards, motor control centers, motors, control boxes, relay panels, lighting systems, power distribution systems and components, instrumentation (level, flow, pressure, temperature, vibration), and diesel engine-generator sets. A representative cross section of anticipated responsibilities is presented below.

- Prepare specifications and other engineering documents to procure, install, and commission a wide variety of hydro-electric equipment and systems.
- Plan and direct hydro-electric equipment refurbishment projects from disassembly to return to service.
- Troubleshoot equipment failures and perform root cause analysis to eliminate repeat failures.
- Represent the company at shop inspections and factory acceptance tests related to hydro-electric systems to ensure equipment in shop meets specifications and Industry codes.
- Direct contractors and hydro project staff at facilities to accomplish equipment repair and upgrades; ensuring electrical documents are updated to reflect field changes.
- Provide operations & maintenance with industry best practices that drive equipment operational reliability and minimize unplanned downtime.
- Manage project implementation and complete projects on time and on-budget.
- Collaborate with other engineering disciplines (mechanical, controls) to support project integration.
- Utilize equipment predictive data analysis to enhance equipment performance and recommend outage schedules for performing preventative maintenance.
- Develop electrical schematics and drawings to guide installation and maintenance of hydro-electric equipment and systems.
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering or a minimum of four years’ work experience in a related field.
- Travel as required for project supervision and execution (~30%).
- Strong understanding of power systems, including generation, transmission, and distribution.
- The ability to work effectively in a team environment and collaborate with other disciplines.
- Experience with industrial electrical systems and maintenance practices.
- The ability to perform operational tasks which may include:
- The ability to climb ladders and to work at heights on or near water.
- The dexterity to manipulate various size components from valves to small electrical switches to computer keyboards.
- The ability to "handle" rapidly changing situations under stress.
