 Job Duties & Responsibilities: 
  1. Under general supervision, performs work required during construction and maintenance on or near all types of energized and de-energized conductors, structures, and equipment up to and including 125 VDC and 120 VAC to 115 KVAC.
  2. Performs planned and corrective maintenance on generators, transformers, exciters, breakers/switchgear, motors, valve actuators, controls, relays, indicators, instruments, lighting equipment, batteries, and related equipment.
  3. Installs, removes, or replaces underground and overhead systems including cable splicing, insulating oil testing, minor plumbing/tubing for air/oil/water to controls or instruments.
  4. Make all necessary inspections, reports, and requisitions for materials.
  5. Assist technical representatives and contractors during major inspections, modifications, and/or repairs of generators, transformers, exciters, breakers/switchgear, motors, controls, and related equipment.
  6. Will be required to install instrument transformers; install, remove, connect or disconnect electric meters and services; and do switching and tagging of all voltages.
  7. Uses hand or power tools, measuring and test equipment.
  8. Qualified to assemble/install rigging equipment such as straps, slings, and chains and operates cranes/hoists for lifting heavy equipment/materials.     
  9.  May be tasked with planning and directing work of others who are assisting.
  10.  Performs other related and less skilled duties, such as raking trash or assisting with trash rack repairs, buoy, watercraft, boat barrier maintenance, Sluice Gate/Fish Way operation and maintenance, fork truck operation, etc as directed
Experience and Special Information:
  1. Must have at least four (4) years combined experience as a qualified electrician working with high voltage (2400V, 4800V, 115KV) switchgear and equipment.
  2. Experience working with Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC’s), communication between PLC’s and programming language, and electronic relays.
  3. Must become thoroughly familiar with the Company's Electrical Switching and Lock-Out/Tag-Out (LOTO) rules.
  
Qualifications/Requirements:  
  • Strong electrical background and a willingness to work in an industrial environment
  • Thorough understanding of blueprints and engineering drawings. 
  • Must be familiar with the design and construction of power plant equipment
  • Must have thorough working knowledge of electrical fundamentals as related to generation, transmission, and distribution construction and maintenance.
  • Must have good working knowledge of and apply the safety standards for Electrical Construction and Maintenance practices.
  • Must qualify for starting/stopping/synching of generating units and operation of related equipment within one year of starting employment.
  • Must understand and comply with Company’s Electrical and Mechanical LOTO Policy.
  • Must be familiar with Company’s Safety Rules and First Aid Training.
  • Must understand and comply with rigging/lifting equipment, procedures, and safety.
  • High School graduate or possess a GED with a strong background in mathematics and physical sciences.  Completion of Trade School, Apprenticeship, or A.A.S in technology is desirable.
  • Must be able to troubleshoot, repair and perform semi-routine operations of considerable electrical and mechanical complexity and variety where standard methods of procedures are available.
  • Must possess a valid state-issued driver’s license and ability to obtain a boat operator certification within one year of starting employment.
  • Establishing IBEW Local 777 union membership is a condition of hire/employment
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions: 
  • Physical requirements include standing on feet for extended periods, stair and ladder climbing and routinely lifting to 50 pounds.
  • Protective equipment must be worn in the performance of duties (e.g., hard hats, safety glasses, air masks, ear protection, safety harness, chemical suits, hot gloves, respirator, and high voltage protective equipment, etc.).
  • Work with hazardous materials will be required on a periodic basis.
  • Occasional work in adverse weather conditions will be required. Work on or around water, from heights, and confined spaces is required. 
  • Must be willing and able to work extra and/or irregular hours as directed.
