About the role: The Hydro Supervisor performs duties in connection with the supervision, operation and maintenance of hydroelectric powerhouse/ dam equipment located in Watertown NY in accordance with plant procedures, operating instructions, safety regulations and industry practices.

- Supervise, direct and perform any duties required in the operation of the powerhouse and dam according to general system or plant operating orders or making changes in operations as necessary.
- Direct and perform duties required to place equipment in service, remove from service, and properly release equipment for maintenance work.
- Make inspection tours to check powerhouse and dam conditions, gauges, and records for satisfactory performance.
- Instruct and train employees in operations job duties. Give assistance and advice to employees in order to maintain safety and maximum efficiency operation.
- Determine causes of unusual or improper operating conditions or equipment failure and take necessary actions to correct and prevent reoccurrence.
- Compute river flow from available data.
- Keep informed of safety practices (personal & dam safety) and governmental regulations.
- Maintain adequate knowledge of fire protection systems, procedures and proper use of firefighting equipment.
- Maintain records of all operating conditions and changes during a shift.
- Be proficient in use of company email system.
- Be proficient in accessing operating information via the internet and company intranet systems.
- At least five years of related experience in a power plant or industrial setting highly preferred.
- The ability to lead, supervise, and delegate tasks as needed.
- An unwavering commitment to safety, both for ECRE employees and contractors and the public in general.
- Instrumentation and control system experience, including troubleshooting of PLC based control systems and general calibration of instrumentation devices preferred.
- Ability to communicate and report all downtime related events in a timely manner to the regional manager.
- Experience with basic industrial maintenance techniques preferred.
- The ability to maintain a valid driver’s license.
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Vocational certificate or degree in Engineering or Physical Sciences preferred.
- Experience with Microsoft Office Suite (Teams, Word, Outlook, etc.) for use in business communication.
- Ability to perform manual tasks including but not limited to:
- The operation of hand and power tools and the ability to lift at least 50 lbs.
- Being able to bend and maneuver in tight, cramped quarters.
- Ability to work in hot, noisy, and dark environments, often alone and isolated.
- Comfortability working at heights and around water.
- Ability to work with and wear respiratory protection.
- Reach with hands and arms above shoulder level and at shoulder level.
- Walk, stand, stoop, kneel, and bend for prolonged periods of time.
- Grip and manually manipulate, often in repetitive motion, items such as but not limited to hand tools and machine parts.
- Read and identify labels, gauges, dials, and indicators typically encountered in performing job duties.
- Possess clear and effective verbal communication in all circumstances, including emergency situations and giving/receiving instructions over a radio.
